Results compiled by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages showed that Isla took the top spot for girls’ names, exchanging places with 2019’s number one, Olivia.
The last time Isla headed the list was in 2017.
Oliver became the most chosen name for boys in 2020 for the sixth time in the past seven years, after slipping to third in 2019.
Noah retained second place, while perennial favourite Jack dropped to third from first.
Matilda and Isabella were new entrants to the girls top ten, while Elijah debuted for boys.
Dropping out of the top ten were Harper (15th) and Lucy (20) for girls, and Mason (14) for boys.
Some of the more adventurous girls’ names in the top 50 included Mackenzie (37), Aaliyah (45) and Quinn (50).
Kai (35) and Bodhi (50) were among offbeat boys’ names.
