The Bill has been introduced to accelerate major job-creating projects while maintaining Western Australia’s world-class environmental standards.
It delivers on a number of recommendations from the Independent Review of WA Environmental Approvals Processes and Procedures (Vogel-McFerran Review), which found approvals processes are overly complex, time consuming and costly — holding back projects without providing any additional environmental benefits.
This legislation follows a series of additional reforms being implemented by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation and the Environmental Protection Authority to cut green tape and improve WA’s environmental approvals processes.
