Western Australians will be among the first in the country to ‘roll up’ for a COVID-19 booster vaccine.

From Monday 1 November, fully vaccinated people aged 18 and over, who received their second dose at least six months ago, are able to receive a booster vaccine from a state-run clinic with no appointment.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration has announced that the Pfizer (Comirnaty) COVID-19 vaccine has received approval to be used as a booster vaccine.

In the event clinics are busy, people who are there to receive a first or second dose will be prioritised to receive a vaccine.

The booster shot is not mandatory and does not apply to the recently announced Mandatory vaccination policy, however people are urged to consider receiving a booster as it provides further protection against COVID-19.

The booster doses will not be included in WA’s overall vaccination rates, as, based on ATAGI advice, a person is considered ‘fully vaccinated’ once they have completed a first and second dose.
