Communities continues to make significant strides towards providing better housing opportunities for Western Australians, with 135 brand new social housing dwellings being added across WA last month.

These new homes consist of:

  • 71 dwellings completed as part of Communities ongoing construction efforts. This includes an innovative mix of housing types:
    • 5 modern modular dwellings
    • 13 sturdy metal frame dwellings
    • 20 cozy timber frame dwellings
    • 33 timeless double brick dwellings
  • Communities has also acquired 64 homes through spot purchases, ensuring a diverse range of options to meet the needs of our community.

Communities has added 1,500 social homes to the State's public housing stock since July 2021, with more than 1,000 under contract or construction. Given the heated construction market, alternative and flexible housing reform programs were established to bolster the supply of social housing across WA, including:

  • a State-wide small and medium builders panel which includes 85 builders across the State that are pre-approved for government work to further accelerate social housing delivery;
  • utilising alternative construction methods including timber frame and modular builds;
  • boosting the State's highly successful spot purchasing program;
  • converting surplus Government Regional Officer Housing (GROH) stock; and
  • driving planning reforms to boost housing supply throughout WA.
