The training session on 12 September 2024 was customised to cover information specific to the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS) on grievance procedures, the definition of contact officer and what the role does and does not entail.

Participants included contact officers newly appointed to the role as well as those attending as a ‘refresher,’ workplace health and safety officers, and human resources and employee relations staff. The Manager Human Resources, DEMIRS also attended and was a valuable source of further insights on the details of the Department’s policies and procedures.

The session was delivered by the Commission’s Community Education and Training Officer Kayla Manuel who enjoyed working with the group and commended their keen engagement with the material and willingness to discuss their own experiences and learn from each other.

Feedback provided by participants credited the session with providing relevant examples, a clear explanation on the contact officer role and a better understanding of available options. Comments around the facilitation included: ‘The trainer was extremely knowledgeable and passionate which made the training engaging as well as informative.’
