Membership requirements
Becoming a member
Applicants must have knowledge that includes Aboriginal land and sea management, conservation and cultural management, effective communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills, a strong understanding of policy and planning, and experience on committees or similar governance bodies.
To submit an Expressions of Interest (EOI) form, please fill in the template below. Please attach a current resume and/or cover letter outlining your experience relevant to this position.
New appointments will be made for a period of up to two years, with the option to apply for a second term. Members appointed to the group will be paid and travel/accommodation costs are covered in accordance with the department’s policies.
Being a member
As a member of AWEAG, individuals contribute skills and experience to give advice towards decision-making processes. The role involves actively shaping the department’s direction, reflecting a commitment and sense of responsibility. Members are accountable for their actions and decisions, sharing collective responsibility for the group’s functioning. The Terms of Reference outlines member roles and responsibilities, with quarterly meetings including one regional location per year. In cases of attendance challenges, upon approval members can nominate a proxy.
AWEAG is made up of representatives from seven regions across WA.
These include:

- Great Sandy Desert
- Geraldton – Mid West
- Goldfields–Esperance
- South West
- Perth
