Civil Construction Pilot Program

The Civil Construction Pilot Program commenced on 3 September 2021, in response to a request from the civil construction industry.
Last updated:

The Civil Construction Pilot Program has been developed to determine if the conversion of targeted civil construction qualifications in WA from traineeships to apprenticeships, will achieve the objective of increasing skills and employment outcomes for individuals and build workforce capacity for WA employers.

Timeline

The pilot program commenced in September 2021, and is scheduled to conclude on 31 October 2025.

The program provides the following funding to cover a wage gap created by the transition from a traineeship to an apprenticeship, ensuring that employers and apprentices are not disadvantaged.

  • A wage subsidy of up to $14,000 for employers who employ junior apprentices (under 21)
  • Wage gap funding for 50 direct indenture employers of mature age civil construction apprenticeships
  • An increase from $8,000 to $10,000 to the Construction Training Fund’s support grant for employers of apprentices
