The Licence is Your Life Indigenous Drink Driving and Licencing Kit (Kit) was developed in 2011 to address road safety issues affecting Aboriginal people living in the Kimberley region of WA. The multimedia kit included a board game and supporting resources. It was popular with users and continues to be a valued resource, however, a 2019 review indicated that some aspects of the game had become dated and did not reflect current road safety issues or legislation.
The YLYL web-based app has been developed to use either in conjunction with, or as a replacement for the Kit. The target audience has been widened to include all Aboriginal people, people living in regional and remote WA, novice drivers, and members of the CaLD community. With increasing numbers of West Australians now driving on unfamiliar territory as they holiday interstate due to the COVID-19 pandemic, YLYL can also be valuable tool in familiarising seasoned drivers with a less familiar driving landscape.
The quiz questions are designed to help people become familiar with driving practices that facilitate safe and lawful driving. The style of quiz will also help people get used to the format of the online theory test needed to be passed to obtain a Learner’s permit.

Play YLYL
You can visit play.rscylyl.com.au every time you want to play or learn, or you can create a shortcut which looks like a regular app icon on your computer, phone or tablet. Then just tap the YLYL icon to start playing.
The YLYL game will work with most browsers (except Internet Explorer), but for best results use Google Chrome.
See the YLYL toolkit below for more information on how to access the YLYL game. Internet access is required to download and update game, however, once downloaded the game can be played without internet.
YLYL resource hub
The resource hub is accessible at rscylyl.com.au and has been designed to provide easy access to information already available on other websites.
Internet access is required to view the resource hub and information contained within it. There are documents within the hub that can be downloaded and saved when connected to the internet, for instance the PDF versions of the Department of Transport’s ‘Safe Drive Handbook’ and the ‘Road Traffic Code 2000’. Although access to the resource hub is not available while out of internet range, when in range the latest updated version will be accessible.
