Survey and wells for energy resource titles

Information on petroleum and geothermal operational activities.
Last updated:

Various types of geotechnical data acquisition surveys are performed, by the holder of an instrument, in the course of exploration for, appraisal and production of resources including geochemical, geological and geophysical surveys. Each survey requires approval from the department prior to the commencement of the survey.

It is a regulatory requirement to have an approved Well Management Plan (WMP) before any significant activity can be undertaken in a well. Significant well activities normally will require regulatory approval, through the submission of prescribed well management plans before they are undertaken. Such activities can include:

  • Well drilling operations
  • Well completions
  • Well intervention.

An approved well activity attaches to and becomes the current approved WMP.
