The Women in Executive Leadership Initiative signals an investment by the public sector in its women leaders and delivers a strategic approach to creating a strong and diverse leadership pipeline to meet ongoing demand.
The initiative is consistent with the shared commitment to build the impact of leadership across the sector through the agreed conditions for positive leadership change set out in Building Leadership Impact.
Running for 12 months, each agency’s selected woman has the opportunity to delve into the Executive Leader context and provides opportunities to:
- learn from being part of decision making, governance and operations at the corporate level
- have visibility at the highest tiers of public sector operations
- increase their strategy, policy and public administration capabilities
- be provided with stretch opportunities beyond their current experiences.
In 2024-25 the initiative was open to all departments and SES organisations for accomplished permanent level 7 and 8 (or equivalent) women looking for senior leadership development and experience.
