Memorials
Show moreA memorial plays an important role for those left behind and future generations to come. It is a place of focus. A place to reflect. A place to visit.
A fitting tribute and a site of import for future generations . A memorial should be genuinely special. Whether a big plaque or a small plaque, a seat, a tree, a rock; the range of memorials available at metropolitan cemeteries is as diverse as the community for whom memorial gardens are established to serve.
There is a wide selection of memorial options available at Rockingham Regional Memorial Park ranging from simple garden plaques to granite memorial benches. Other memorial options include:
Garden Ground Niche
The Garden Ground Niche is a larger size memorial that has become a popular memorialisation choice for many families.
Family Trees
A native tree or shrub creates a unique living memorial for an individual or a group of up to four.
Granite Niche Wall
The Granite Niche Wall at Rockingham Regional Memorial Park is constructed of a rich, red earthy coloured granite.
Organising an appointment
Memorials selection appointments are complimentary and involve a short visit to the cemetery grounds with one of our staff members who will assist in locating a preferred memorial and will then guide you through finalising the inscription (i.e. wording) for the plaque. Prior to the appointment, many families have found visiting the cemetery or memorial park and having a wander through the grounds to be beneficial, as is having read the Memorial Selection Guide below. By doing this you will be able to advise our staff of your preferences. Please contact our offices to arrange a time for a selection appointment. We recommend allowing approximately one hour for your appointment. Most families prefer to send several family members to their selection appointment and we welcome this.
Cremations
Show moreIn Perth, 80% of funeral services are cremations and all are undertaken by the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board at Fremantle Cemetery, Karrakatta Cemetery and Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park.
Many cremations are preceded by a service held in one of our chapels. The service culminates in the committal of the casket.
Each chapel is complemented by condolence lounges in which families may host mourners for light refreshments once the funeral service has concluded.
What is cremation?
Cremation is the reduction of a body to ashes by fire conducted in a purpose-built crematorium. The Metropolitan Cemeteries Board owns and operates the latest and most energy efficient cremation equipment available.
Each crematorium is complemented by several purpose built chapels and condolence lounges in which families generally hold a remembrance service followed by the provision of light refreshments.
What are the advantages of cremation?
Cremation is less expensive than burial. Also, burial takes up valuable land and for this reason many people consider cremation to be more environmentally friendly.
Cremation also offers families a broader range of opportunities to commemorate the deceased in a fittingly appropriate manner following the actual cremation.
