The park, which received its first burial in 1978, has been developed and maintained as a natural bushland cemetery planted only with native species. No monuments are permitted but each grave is marked by a flat bronze plaque.
The natural environment of Pinnaroo provides a haven for many native animals including kangaroos. The grounds are a popular attraction for walks, jogging and picnics.
Due to the nature of the flat lying plaques in the Pinnaroo burial areas, tributes need to be removed for mowing and maintenance. A list of tribute clearance dates can be found here Tribute Collection Dates January 2025
Funeral Protocol
Mourners gather in the chapel precinct for chapel services, or alternatively make their way to the burial area for a burial service.
Burials
Show moreThe natural bushland of Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park has been retained in a way that creates a series of intimate burial courtyards.
These courtyards, which have been named after Australian flora, have been enhanced by additional landscaping with native plants, trees and shrubs.
Burials are available in Melaleuca Court and Tuart Court and children’s burials are available in Zamia Court. No headstones or monuments are permitted – only bronze or flat natural stone memorial plaques. This policy ensures that the natural bushland environment of Pinnaroo is retained.
At Pinnaroo each grave may have a total of four interments – including burials and cremated remains. Up to three of the interments may be burials.

Natural Burials
Show moreIn a departure from the granite headstones and manicured grounds of the conventional cemetery, natural burials offer the community a unique and sustainable final resting place with minimal disturbance to the natural bushland environment.
The Metropolitan Cemeteries Board has established a natural burial area at Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park. With a natural burial, the body is returned to nature in a biodegradable coffin and materials made from natural fibres.
Natural burials at Pinnaroo are located in a small and secluded bushland pocket. Bordered by traditional burial locations and memorial gardens, this unique pocket of bushland will be progressively vegetated with natural plant species as plots are utilised.
Further Information
Enquiries regarding natural burials can also be directed to your Funeral Director, or for those wishing to pre-purchase a natural burial plot, to Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park on 1300 793 109.
Memorials
Show moreA memorial plays an important role for those left behind and future generations to come.
It is a place of focus. A place to reflect. A place to visit. A fitting tribute and a site of import for future generations.
A memorial should be genuinely special. Whether a big plaque or a small plaque, a seat, a tree, a rock; the range of memorials available at metropolitan cemeteries is as diverse as the community for whom memorial gardens are established to serve.
An enormous team of gardeners lovingly tend acres and acres of gardens; all with their purpose of providing respectful and splendid locales for commemoration.
In recognition of the need to find something particularly special and the fact that establishing a memorial really does require attention to be spent on the finer detail, the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board offers complimentary memorials selection appointments at all of our cemetery locations.
The original purchase price will include the first inscription (i.e. the first commemorative plaque and set of ashes). For additional inscriptions (i.e. additional commemorations), a smaller fee is paid at the time of need. For those not selecting a memorial with the capacity to accommodate multiple family members but wishing to make arrangements for the future, we strongly advise that an adjacent position alongside the first be reserved.
Please refer to Pinnaroo Memorial Product Maps for memorial options available in each location of Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park.
Tree of Life
Hand carved from Donnybrook stone, the Tree of Life supports a number of bronze leaves each of which provides a heartfelt way in which to commemorate a loved one.
Memorial Gardens
Memorial gardens are located throughout Pinnaroo. In keeping with the natural bushland theme of the park, all gardens feature native and bushland style plantings.
Family Trees
A native tree creates a unique living memorial for an individual or a group of up to four. In keeping with the environment, trees are selected from native species ranging from Grass Trees to large Tuart or Jarrah Trees.
Vista Memorials
Vista Memorials at Pinnaroo are offered on bridges located throughout the park and on the Sir Thomas Meagher Lake Boardwalk. They offer a larger plaque size and the serene backdrop of flowing water.
Chapels & Facilities
Show morePart of making arrangements for a funeral service is giving families and friends the opportunity to say farewell together – this may be a celebration of life, an honouring of memories or simply and opportunity to gather together to reflect upon the life of a loved one.
Many families don’t realise that cremation services at MCB cemeteries, regardless of whether you have booked them to occur at a Funeral Director’s premises, actually include an allocation of chapel time at the cemetery.
Featuring green lawns and a bushland environment, Pinnaroo Valley Memorial offers two large capacity chapels with large condolence lounges alongside each. Built from local materials including limestone and WA jarrah hardwood, the East and West Chapel, Crematorium and Café sit in complete harmony with the surroundings.
Multimedia screens are mounted in both chapels and both have external screens to cater for particularly large crowds. We suggest that families check with their Funeral Director to ensure that any multimedia presentations are compatible with the chapel facilities prior to the funeral service.
If you would like to view any of the chapels, please contact our staff to arrange a time. Viewings are scheduled around existing funeral bookings.
Viewing Room
A viewing room is provided should the family wish to remain with the casket until its committal to the cremator. Please contact your Funeral Director should you wish to make use of this facility

East Chapel and Condolence Lounge
The East Chapel accommodates 210 people, with seating for 118. The chapel includes state-of-the-art multimedia technology to provide a seamless service and includes a musicians gallery.
The East Condolence Lounge has recently been refurbished and includes multimedia screens for light refreshments after the service.
West Chapel and Condolence Lounge
The West Chapel is a mirror image of the East Chapel, accommodating 210 people with seating for 118, extending to an alfresco area with multimedia screens.
The West Condolence Lounge is available for light refreshments after the service.
Catering Services
Show moreFollowing a service at either of the chapels at Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park, many families opt to host a gathering for those attending the funeral service within the condolence lounge located adjacent to the chapel. A comprehensive catering service is provided by Celeste Catering; a specialised bereavement caterer.
Families wishing to make arrangements for catering within the lounge can make initial enquiries with their Funeral Director or, alternatively, can telephone Celeste Catering on 1300 372 774. The telephone service is available 24 hours a day and the team from Celeste are ready to assist you in making arrangements at what can be a particularly difficult time.

Hazard Tree Program
Show moreThe Metropolitan Cemeteries Board (MCB) undertakes a number of ongoing bushfire management activities to mitigate the risk of bushfire occurrences that could result in damage to life, property and the environment. Hazard reduction grass tree burn offs are a key strategy being implemented.
Please be advised the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) will be looking for the opportunity, subject to suitable weather conditions and resourcing, to conduct a hazard reduction grass tree burn at Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park on behalf of the MCB during winter/early spring.
We currently have no burn offs scheduled but will update this page with dates if and when we proceed with a burn off activity.
Any enquiries can be directed to the MCB on 1300 793 109 or via mcb@mcb.wa.gov.au
