Core library services and samples

Accessing geological samples and services at the Perth Core Library and Joe Lord Core Library.
Last updated:

We understand how important it is to store drillcore collected during mineral and petroleum exploration in Western Australia. Drillcore are essential for industry stakeholders as they help in developing geological models and planning exploration programs.

Western Australia has two specially designed core libraries: the Perth Core Library in Carlisle and the Joe Lord Core Library in Kalgoorlie. These libraries are used to display and archive drillcore, making them available for future exploration activities. Both facilities are managed by the Geological Survey of Western Australia (GSWA).

Perth Core Library hosts the HyLogger spectral scanner. This advanced system uses visible and infrared spectroscopy, along with digital imaging, to analyse core samples and cuttings quickly and safely.
