Acacia Prison Contract
Acacia Prison was the first privately-managed correctional facility in Western Australia.
The service contract commenced in 2001 under Australian Integrated Management Services.
As part of the retender process, Serco Australia Pty Ltd won the contract in 2006. The first of two five year options to extend the contract was awarded to Serco in 2011 and the second in 2016.
The contract emphasises the need to ensure security of the prison, while providing suitable prisoner programs aimed at reducing re-offending as well as creating opportunities for innovation across both private and public prisons.
In December 2020 Serco Australia Pty Ltd were successful in winning a replacement contract which will commence in May 2021. The contract has an initial term of five years with two extension options of up to five years each. The replacement contract provides for Serco to both operate and maintain Acacia Prison.
The Department provides onsite monitoring services at Acacia that ensure the Contractor is performing against contract requirements.
