The Australia China Natural Gas Technology Partnership Fund was established in 2002 as part of an agreement for Australia to supply LNG to China.

The Australia China Natural Gas Technology Partnership Fund is a joint initiative of the North West Shelf Joint Venture Project, Commonwealth Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources and the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation.

China’s National Development and Reform Commission is the Chinese partner to the fund.

The secretariats in Perth, Western Australia and Beijing, China, manage the fund.

The two main annual activities of the fund are the Australian Training Program and the Gas Business Delegation to China. These activities aim to establish long-term partnerships within the energy sector, encourage knowledge sharing and enhance the Australia and China relationship.
