About

Curtin’s Healthy Connections project is a finalist in the WA Department of Health’s The Challenge competition to develop and propose a solution that uses technology, supported by research, to improve health outcomes for people living in regional and remote Western Australia.

Delivering advanced healthcare in the Pilbara is challenging. Patients often travel long distances to access basic and specialist medical services, leading to a lack of continuity of care and poorer health outcomes. The Healthy Connections Medi-Kit improves health equity in the Pilbara by empowering Aboriginal Health Workers, practitioners, and clinicians to offer preventative health screening to their community on-Country - bringing the ‘clinic to the community’. The Medi-Kit is designed around cultural safety, and provides AI-enabled analysis and support to health workers to carry out health consultations. The Medi-Kit also provides secure and reliable satellite connectivity for telehealth and virtually connected healthcare in remote regions.

The Healthy Connections project is a collaboration between Curtin’s School of Electrical Engineering, Computing, and Mathematical Sciences, and Health Sciences, and is supported by industry partners Cisco and Optus.
