The Prisoners Review Board of Western Australia (the Board) is an entirely independent statutory body established on 28 January 2007 under section 102 of the Sentence Administration Act 2003 to be a continuation of the previous Parole Board. The Board performs an important role within the justice system by making determinations and recommendations for early release from prison or detention and by considering the performance of offenders on their orders when in the community.

The Board is situated in the Perth CBD. We have a small team of highly motivated and dedicated staff focused on providing quality support to; the Prisoners Review Board, Mentally Impaired Review Tribunal, and Supervised Release Review Board (the Boards), to ensure they have the information they need before them, so their decision-making process is fully informed.

Coordinator Listings and Support

The Coordinator Listings and Support role provides high level support to the Manager Listings and Support and the Board Members both in and out of Board Meetings, as well as assisting in the timely and high-quality provision of service to the Boards.

The Role

The duties of a Coordinator are varied and involve providing support to the Chairperson, Board Members and facilitating the smooth running of Board Meetings. Much of this role takes place in the administrative office of the Boards, providing administrative support including preparing files, agendas, recording accurate minutes, supervising the creation of release orders, warrants and decision letters.

Other duties of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides support to achieve the outcomes of the Supervised Release Review Board, the Mentally Impaired Review Tribunal and the Prisoners Review Board.
  • Ensures effective two-way communication between the Boards, judiciary and administrative staff.
  • Prepares and maintains the Boards’ files to ensure the collation of offender information from relevant stakeholders to enable defensible decision making by releasing authorities.
  • Analyses information to assist in informing the decision-making process.
  • Generating and quality assuring paperwork for proceedings.
  • Implements and ensures compliance with all Board procedures.
  • Liaises between the Boards and stakeholders.
  • Answers enquiries and correspondence.
  • Participates constructively and positively within workplace to achieve outcomes.
  • Works with management to create a team environment that supports a positive organisational culture.

Support Officer

The Support Officer role works within a team responsible for providing administrative services to the Boards. The position is responsible for providing a range of administrative and secretarial support to the Chairperson, members of the Board, the Manager Boards and Programs (Registrar), Manager Listings and Support, and the Executive Officer

The Role

Includes but is not limited to:

  • Provides administrative support and secretarial services within an environment of competing priorities and constant adjustment.
  • Maintains filing systems and ensure correspondence and appropriate records are kept. Maintains an accurate and effective correspondence file tracking and record system.
  • Types correspondences, file notes, reports and prepare documents to a high standard of accuracy and presentation.
  • Records decisions of the Boards into electronic databases.
  • Liaises with stakeholders for collection of reports and other relevant documentation.
  • Screens all correspondence and redirects to appropriate staff for action in accordance with established business area guidelines.
  • Other duties as required in accordance with strategic objectives, business plans, local workload priorities and performance management plans.
