Water quality protection note on using engineered soils as a liner for containing pollutants
Last updated:

This note describes how to line holding structures with engineered low permeability soils to limit contaminated fluid escape into the surrounding environment. The note provides guidance on acceptable practices used to protect the quality of Western Australian water resources.

The note applies to constructed ponds and materials-storage compounds used to contain materials that present a low environmental hazard (i.e. the contaminant would normally be present in the external environment in low concentrations).
