The 2023 WA Road Fatalities and Serious Injuries Report has been revised this year, moving from the traditional table format to a more contemporary format of text, graphics, and tables. The aim of this revision is to highlight key insights of the Western Australia 2023 crash data.

This publication reports on people who have been Killed or Seriously Injured (KSI) in a reported crash on WA roads or road-related areas that are open to the public. This excludes those KSI as a result of premediated intent to cause harm (including suicide) or if they were in control of a vehicle and the crash was caused by them having a medical episode.

A fatality is defined as a person killed immediately, or within 30 days of the crash, as a result of injuries sustained in a crash. A serious injury is defined as a person who is admitted to hospital as a result of a reported crash. The definitions of categories and regional boundaries may differ from publications using data sourced from WA Police Force Systems.
