Water note 11 - Identifying the riparian zone

Guidance
Information about identifying the riparian zone of a river or stream.
Last updated:

The first step in managing a river is to identify the riparian zone. The riparian zone includes the immediate vicinity of the stream, which consists of the bed, banks and adjacent land, as well as the floodplain, which carries large floods.

This water note provides information on the areas of the riparian zone and the biophysical criteria for management of the riparian zone.
