The River Health Assessment Scheme was initiated in 2006 through funding from the then Swan Catchment Council to develop and implement a river health assessment program for waterways in the Swan Canning catchment.
The River Health Assessment Scheme was designed to measure and report on the ecological health of both rivers and drains, with a view to developing resource condition targets in the future.
The overall aim for the River Health Assessment Scheme was the creation of a cost-effective, rapid assessment tool that has the capacity to detect long-term changes in river health.
