The Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety’s (DEMIRS) confirms its long-standing commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment, arts, cultures and communities and the Plan is aligned to the DEMIRS strategic intent and integrated into key parts of the business.

The department’s vision for ongoing reconciliation is to have a diverse and inclusive workforce that understands and respects Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and peoples and is able to build strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.

DEMIRS will focus on four key themes for the life of this Plan:

  1. Building and maintaining mutually respectful relationships.
  2. Respectfully acknowledging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, histories and rights.
  3. Creating real opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment and career development.
  4. Increasing engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander owned businesses.

Recognising the diversity of the Western Australian community, the department has placed an emphasis on enhancing service delivery to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through the provision of specific information and educational resources to ensure equal outcomes.

DEMIRS continues to strengthen relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities with trust and respect when connecting with stakeholders.
