Last updated:

In 2006 the Geographe catchment – including the Vasse Wonnerup Wetlands1 and Geographe Bay – was recognised through the Australian Government’s Coastal Catchments Initiative (CCI) as a priority water quality ‘hotspot’. This was due to the high levels of nitrogen and phosphorus entering the coastal environment from landbased sources. A dynamic hydrologic and nutrient model was used to determine current nutrient loads, load targets, load-reduction targets, nutrient sources and priority subcatchments for remediation.
