Capability
Located in Henderson, the Australian Marine Complex (AMC) is Western Australia’s key shipbuilding and sustainment industrial precinct, supporting the manufacturing, fabrication, assembly & maintenance requirements of the defence, marine, energy and resource industries. The AMC is one of only two naval shipbuilding locations in Australia.
At the heart of the AMC and bordering on Henderson Shipbuilding and Fabrication precincts is the Western Australian Government owned Common User Facility (CUF). The CUF operates under a “Common Use” concept, where multiple organisations and industries can use the CUF infrastructure and services on a project-by-project basis.
CUF facilities include:
- Maintenance and loadout wharves
- Laydown and assembly areas
- Floating Dock
- Self propelled modular transporters
- Vessel transfer capabilities
- Fabrication halls
- Project offices and amenities
Key Customers
The AMC CUF plays a vital role in supporting Defence maintenance and sustainment.
Current Defence activities at the CUF include:
- Anzac Class Frigate maintenance and sustainment
- Collins Class Submarine maintenance and sustainment
- Provision of amenities to support Warship Asset Management Agreement (WAMA)
- Supporting Offshore Patrol Vessel program
- Supporting Pacific Patrol Boat program
- Supporting decommissioning of ex-RAN vessels
- Earmarked for a potential future Large Vessel Dry Berth
The infrastructure and capabilities within Henderson (including AMC and CUF) were identified within the Defence Strategic Review as being critical to support the AUKUS alliance, including current submarine sustainment and the future sustainment of nuclear powered submarines.
