This guideline principally relates to the department’s responsibilities under Part V, Division 3 of the Environmental Protection Act 1986.

When we consider the surrounding environment of a premises, this is called environmental siting. Sometimes the surrounding environment may include areas of high conservation value and special significance (specified ecosystems). These ecosystems may be affected by activities within, or emissions and discharges from, prescribed premises.
