Guidance
A guide for tailings storage facilities (TSFs) designers to prepare the design report for a TSF report.
Last updated:

This guide has been provided to assist tailings storage facilities (TSFs) designers with preparing the design report for a TSF.

It describes the preferred structure of the design report for tailings storage facilities (TSFs) that should be submitted to the department in accordance with section 4 of the Mining Proposal guidelines as required by the Mining Act 1978 and the Tailings storage facilities in Western Australia – code of practice.

TSF design reports should be submitted with a description of the project and TSF, location, completed TSF data sheet, rehabilitation and closure objectives, and a list of commitments to safeguard the TSF and ensure it follows the approved design.

A design report should also include a reference to an environmental study as carried out by the proponent and a confirmation by the proponent that relevant stakeholders have been consulted and resolutions reached.
