Civil infringement notice

Fact sheet
Information on infringements that may be issued by an industrial inspector.
Last updated:

A civil infringement notice may be issued to a person where an inspector reasonably believes the person has contravened a ‘record-related civil penalty provision’ under the Industrial Relations Act 1979.

An infringement notice contains details of the alleged contravention, and specifies a penalty amount to be paid by a specified date. It is similar to an ‘on-the-spot’ fine.
