David Saunders is the Assistant Director General, Land Use Planning of the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage.

David joined the Department of Planning and Infrastructure in October 2007 and has been responsible for State Policy, Regional Planning and Strategy (developing strategic planning frameworks for each planning region), and leading the merging of regional and metropolitan planning to form Land Use Planning.

Prior to this he worked in local government, and State and Commonwealth public sector roles in WA, Queensland, and NSW. 

David has worked in senior roles with the NSW government in the planning and operation of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games; and with the Commonwealth and Queensland governments in the planning and gazettal of the statutory and strategic plan of management for the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area in North Queensland.

David holds a Bachelor Applied Science (Environmental Management) and has over 30 years-experience in public sector management roles.
