State Government Grant to support volunteer flood response
- Broome CIRCLE to receive $69,000 State Government grant
- Funding to support the organisation's Kimberley flood response
- Volunteer involving organisations currently managing increased demand following Ex-Tropical Cyclone Ellie
Volunteering Minister Stephen Dawson has awarded a grant of almost $70,000 to Broome CIRCLE to support the organisation's response to Ex-Tropical Cyclone Ellie.
The funding will bolster the organisation's capacity to support volunteer services, which are helping the community to recover from January's unprecedented floods in the Fitzroy Valley.
Founded in 1982, Broome CIRCLE has provided community services and social support in the Kimberley for more than four decades.
In recent years, the organisation has also hosted the Broome Volunteer Resource Service, which supports volunteers and agencies across the region.
This new funding will help the Broome Volunteer Resource Centre to increase its operations to meet the heightened demand for services, and support communities to recover from the devastation caused by the floods.
Comments attributed to Volunteering Minister Stephen Dawson:
"We know volunteer-involving organisations are experiencing heightened demand for help in the wake of the floods.
"That's why the State Government is providing funding to help Broome CIRCLE build the capacity of these groups.
"It will take everyone pitching in to rebuild our communities and this grant will help volunteer-involving organisations to meet the needs of locals."
Comments attributed to Member for Kimberley Divina D'Anna:
"From day one, volunteers have played a huge role in the flood recovery journey – whether that be volunteers cleaning out impacted homes, community groups managing donations or locals providing social support to their neighbours.
"It is fantastic to see the community stepping up to support one another as they recover."
