New multi-storey Greenwood Station car park a step closer
- Request for Tender open to design and build multi-storey car park
- Project will deliver around 700 additional bays to cater for growing demand
- Design to align with METRONET Public Art and Sustainability strategies
Plans for a new multi-storey car park at Greenwood Station are progressing, with Request for Tender applications for the structure's design and construction opening today.
The new Greenwood Station carpark is part of the State Government's METRONET program, which will significantly improve access to public transport across Perth.
Patronage from Greenwood Station is expected to increase in the coming years, placing pressure on the number of available carparks.
Daily boardings at the station are expected to increase from the current level of fewer than 1500, to around 4000 a day by 2031.
The multi-storey car park will offer about 700 parking bays, taking the total number of bays at Greenwood Station to 1600. The new car park will also have capacity to support electric vehicles with provision for charging infrastructure.
The new car park will be built within the station's existing car park footprint, at the southern end.
The project will also include more drop-off facilities within the current car park, and extra ACROD parking bays.
Comments attributed to Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
"We're seeing significant population growth along Perth's northern corridor, and that's why our Government is acting now to invest in critical infrastructure like this new multi-storey carpark.
"Daily boardings at Greenwood Station are expected to go from the current level of fewer than 1500, to 4000 a day by 2031, which will place significant pressure on the existing carparks.
"This is just another example of how METRONET projects will benefit our community, by making it easier for people to access our improved public transport network."
Comments attributed to Kingsley MLA Jessica Stojkovski:
"METRONET projects like this are so important for the future of our area. With the likely growth in patronage on this line, this project will ensure that the impact on residents from cars parking in the streets around the station will be managed and minimised.
"This new multi-storey car park will benefit the many people living next to Greenwood Station, and in surrounding suburbs, making it easier for them to access public transport to travel to the city for work, education and leisure."
