New concept images unveiled for Subiaco Oval and PMH

• 'Vision Concept' for Subi East released for public comment
• Feedback on concept images will help inform master planning process
• Subi East to create more homes close to Perth CBD, train station and schools
• Community survey indicates strong support for rejuvenating the north-eastern corner of Subiaco 

The State Government has released the first glimpse of what the redeveloped Subi East precinct could look like once completed.

Subi East will be one of the most significant urban redevelopment projects undertaken in Perth, involving the rejuvenation of 35.6 hectares of land into a thriving and connected inner-city hub.

The redevelopment area - which incorporates land around Subiaco Oval, Princess Margaret Hospital, the Inner City College and West Leederville train station - is still subject to master planning and further consultation.

The intention of releasing the early concept images is to share the broad vision for the redevelopment, and follows more than 12 months of consultation with the community and other stakeholders.

The State Government will also be analysing community feedback from Subi East as part of its consideration of the City of Subiaco's next local planning scheme (LPS 5), and seeing how the project can alleviate any potential impact on heritage areas.

Subi East's 'Vision Concept' features a connected, vibrant new community, with strong transport links, walking and cycling paths and a network of high-quality landscaped green spaces linking it to surrounding areas.

Subiaco Oval will be opened up for community use to continue its rich sporting heritage - the State heritage listed entry gates and Sandover Medal Walk will be restored - and it will become home to the WA Football Commission. 

Heritage buildings at the former Princess Margaret Hospital site will also be preserved and adapted for future use, while the stories of the Whadjuk people will be recognised and shared throughout Subi East.

An independent survey that attracted more than 1,500 responses from households, businesses, workers and visitors to the Subiaco area, showed nine in 10 people were either positive or neutral about the Subi East project. Results showed 39 per cent were extremely positive, 33 per cent were positive and 17 per cent were neutral.

Local residents and the broader community now have the opportunity to help further refine the plans for Subi East by providing input to help inform master planning for the project.
