Mandurah Line partial shutdown for essential works
- Major works for the new METRONET Thornlie-Cockburn Link means temporary and partial shutdown to the Mandurah Line from late December to early January
- Line closed between Aubin Grove and Elizabeth Quay stations with replacement bus services
- Trains will still run on New Year's Eve
The Mandurah Line will close between Aubin Grove and Elizabeth Quay stations from 26 December 2022 to 3 January 2023 for major works on METRONET's Thornlie-Cockburn Link, except for New Year's Eve with the full line operational on 31 December.
Trains will not run between Aubin Grove and Elizabeth Quay stations during the shutdown, and replacement buses will be in place.
The shutdown will allow for major 24/7 works to occur between Russell Road/Gibbs Road and the Glen Iris Rail Tunnel (south of Roe Highway) with new rail turnouts, communications and signalling, and overhead line equipment installed on the three-kilometre section of the Mandurah Line.
Given the work's proximity to operating rail and that it will establish the connection between the Mandurah and new Thornlie-Cockburn Line, trains cannot operate in this area for worker and passenger safety.

The Thornlie-Cockburn Link will be Perth's first rail connection between two existing lines, providing a higher level of public transport for communities in the south-east.
METRONET has a strong record of delivering complex work during shutdowns, and significant supporting works are being completed to minimise the time required for the shutdown.
Comments attributed to Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
"There is no ideal time to have a large-scale disruption on the Transperth network, however this is the quietest time of the year on both public transport and the Kwinana Freeway.
"Track shutdowns are an opportunity to get a lot of essential work done in a short timeframe.
"These are essential works for the Thornlie-Cockburn Link which can only be completed when trains are not operating.
"Trains will still run on New Years Eve, but for the remainder of the shutdown period, buses will replace trains between Aubin Grove and Elizabeth Quay.
"We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused by these works and ask people plan ahead and allow more travel time between destinations during the shut."
