Joint media statement - First images of METRONET Whiteman Park Station unveiled
The first images of the future METRONET Whiteman Park Station have been unveiled today, with passengers to be greeted by a vista of mature trees and peaceful grass parklands when they arrive at one of Perth's popular tourism destinations.
The station will be elevated and a new underpass to be built under Drumpellier Drive, providing better connections for Brabham residents and linking the growing community with the new train station and Whiteman Park.
The populations of Brabham, Henley Brook, Dayton, Bennett Springs and Caversham are set to boom over the next decade with an expected 12,000 new homes to be built for the 32,000 people choosing to live in the area by 2036.
It will be a 25-minute trip from the Perth CBD on the new Morley-Ellenbrook line, slashing 20 minutes off of the current trip by bus.
More than one million people visit Whiteman Park each year, making it a popular tourism attraction. Once the station is built it will be even easier to get there for everyone across Perth.
To make the most of investment in the growing area, a draft 30-year Whiteman Park Station Precinct Concept Master Plan is being developed and will open for public comment in the coming months.
When completed and endorsed, the Whiteman Park Station Precinct Concept Master Plan will inform structure planning in Brabham and future updates of the Whiteman Park Strategic Plan.
Major works on the METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook Line are continuing, with clearing now starting on the northern end of the line including north of Marshall Road in Bennett Springs, alongside Drumpellier Drive in Brabham, and in Ellenbrook.
Initial works include clearing for the train line and stations at Malaga, Whiteman Park and Ellenbrook, as well as preparing for road-over-rail bridges at Beechboro Road North and the Gnangara Road/Drumpellier Drive intersection.
All of this is in preparation for major construction to start on the northern part of the Morley-Ellenbrook Line in early 2022.
Comments attributed to Federal Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts Paul Fletcher:
"The Morrison Government has committed $2.7 billion towards METRONET - one of the most significant transport projects in the city's history - to support the growth of the Perth metropolitan region for decades to come.
"Our Government is continuing to fund the delivery of infrastructure projects that help to ease congestion on local roads, move freight more quickly between our cities, and generate jobs across the country.
"This is just the latest example of us delivering on our commitment to progress critical infrastructure projects across the country under our record $110 billion, 10-year infrastructure investment pipeline, which is helping to drive Australia's economic recovery."
Comments attributed to Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
"Whiteman Park is one of the most popular tourism destinations in Perth with more than one million people visiting every year.
"The new METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook Line and Whiteman Park Station will make it more accessible for locals and visitors with only a 25-minute trip from the Perth CBD.
"The station will be elevated, with an underpass at Drumpellier Drive, to provide connections between the station and the local Brabham community.
"This will be a major asset as the suburbs of Brabham, Henley Brook and Dayton continue to grow.
"Work continues to ramp up on the METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook Line, with clearing to commence on the northern section shortly in preparation for the Malaga, Whiteman Park and Ellenbrook Stations, as well as preparing for road-over-rail bridges at Beechboro Road North and the Gnangara Road/Drumpellier Drive intersection.
"We currently have 15 METRONET projects under construction, completed, planned or in procurement, supporting thousands of local jobs."
Comments attributed to the Hon Ken Wyatt AM MP, Federal Member for Hasluck and Minister for Indigenous Australians:
"This project forms part of the Morrison Government's plan to build a stronger local community right here in Hasluck.
"The new Whiteman Park Station will enable local residents to effectively use public transport and also unlock our region to the rest of WA, encouraging local tourism and supporting local jobs and businesses."
