Hillarys Boat Harbour jetty works to help in recovery journey

Hillarys Boat Harbour, one of the State's busiest boat harbours, will receive some vital jetty upgrades to ensure these important public assets are well maintained.
  • Upgrade to improve commercial and recreational boating as well as tourism opportunities
  • Renewal project to provide better facilities and create a pipeline of jobs
  • Investment part of the McGowan Government's $5.5 billion WA Recovery Plan

Hillarys Boat Harbour, one of the State's busiest boat harbours, will receive some vital jetty upgrades to ensure these important public assets are well maintained.

The $6.8 million renewal project at Hillarys Boat Harbour involves the replacement of four jetties with new modern boat pen systems, as part of the WA Recovery Plan.

It is expected that works will be undertaken in a relatively short time, as quickly as possible, and staged to limit disruption to operators and users during the next three years.

Hillarys' existing users will be relocated to the other pens until their new modern replacement pen is available.

The investment builds on top of the new walking trails at Hillarys Boat Harbour, which were completed last month.

The three separate walks highlight key attractions along the way and help attract visitors and families to the marina to support small businesses, which have been impacted by COVID-19.

Comments attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:

"Local boat harbours support small businesses and are community assets for locals and visitors to use and enjoy.

"We have an enviable coastal lifestyle in WA, and investment in infrastructure provides job opportunities and presents both economic and social benefits to the community across the State.

"Once complete these upgrades will provide greater commercial and recreational boating plus tourism opportunities - and will benefit surrounding local businesses which more than ever need the support and patronage to recover from the impacts of the pandemic."

Comments attributed to Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

"Hillarys is not only a major employment hub, but also a popular location for visitors and tourists alike.

"The $6.8 million worth of upgrades involves the replacement of four jetties with new modern boat pen systems, as part of the WA Recovery Plan.

"This will provide a much needed boost for the local economy as well as supporting local jobs and providing more opportunities for local businesses and tourism."
