Construction now underway on new Carnarvon boat pens

• Work now underway on constructing 16 new pens at Carnarvon Boat Harbour
• $2.1 million design and construction project on schedule
• Pens to provide increased year-round ocean access for Carnarvon skippers
• Key part of $7 million Fascine Entryway Project underway

Construction is now underway on 16 new floating boat pens at Carnarvon Boat Harbour.

Detailed design of the pens was recently completed and will feature concrete pontoons that can accommodate 16 vessels up to 15 metres long.

The new pens are part of the Fascine Entryway Project - a multifaceted $7 million project to improve ocean access for the commercial and recreational fleet at Carnarvon.

Work will be carried out by SMC Marine and is expected to be completed by mid-2022.

"Access issues for the Carnarvon Fascine have been an ongoing issue - we know how important being able to access the water is for residents and tourists that visit the region.

"Last year we allocated $7 million towards WA's recovery from the pandemic to look at both short-term and long-term solutions to enable year-round access to the Fascine.

"These boat pens will help provide better access to the Fascine and we anticipate works to be completed later this year.

"This is one of our measures to support the local fleet as work progresses to find a sustainable long-term access solution for the Fascine."
