Community fares introduced by Skippers Aviation (Skippers) on the Northern Goldfields routes are providing residents with cheaper airfare options.

The community fares have already proven popular, with more than 500 purchased since they were introduced in August 2018.

Skippers, a WA owned airline, provides four flights a week between Perth, Laverton and Leonora; and three times a week between Perth and Mount Magnet, Meekatharra and Wiluna.

The significantly discounted community fares are available to local residents only, with up to a 50 per cent discount on the maximum one-way fare. Community fares one-way to Mount Magnet and Leonora are $227, while Laverton, Meekatharra and Wiluna are $253, $233 and $237 respectively.

The discounted fares can be purchased 60 days prior to travel or within 24 hours of travel, subject to seat availability and fare rules.

The Northern Goldfields air routes are regulated by the Department of Transport, with a five-year deed of agreement with Skippers having commenced from mid-2018. The community fares are a result of a tender process undertaken by the Department of Transport through which Skippers was appointed to service the Northern Goldfields routes.

For more information about the community fares for the Northern Goldfields air routes, contact Skippers on 1300 729 924.

Community fares are now offered on all regulated air routes in Western Australia including the Albany, Esperance, Monkey Mia and Carnarvon air routes.

Comments attributed to Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

"The implementation of community fares by Skippers will benefit the communities of Laverton, Leonora, Meekatharra, Mount Magnet and Wiluna.

"This provides more opportunities for local residents to take advantage of the discounted fares to visit friends and family or travel at the last minute for emergencies.

"It's another great example of an airline working closely with the State Government to help bring airfares down in regional areas."
