2021 Community Litter Grants winners

• 14 community groups share more than $37,000 to tackle litter
• KABC Community Litter Grants have provided more than $416,000 since 2013
• Keep Australia Beautiful Week runs from August 16-22 

A total of 14 community groups will share in more than $37,000 in the 2021 round of the Keep Australia Beautiful Council's Community Litter Grants scheme.

Announced to coincide with Keep Australia Beautiful Week (August 16-22), the grants support community projects to reduce litter and change littering behaviour in Western Australia.

Community Litter Grants are awarded annually to eligible local governments, community groups, small-to-medium sized enterprises and schools.

More than $416,000 has been provided to these organisations under the scheme since 2013.

The 2021 grant recipients will use the funding for a diverse range of projects across the State such as litter signage in Nungarin, the purchase of a trailer to support litter collection at Bunbury's Dolphin Discovery Centre, trialling the use of a sea bin at Claisebrook Cove to remove and analyse litter, and an interactive show to explain the impact of litter on oceans to children aged three to nine years old.

Keep Australia Beautiful Week aims to raise awareness of the simple things we can do every day to reduce our impact on the environment and encourage action.

Communities and individuals can get involved in preventing and cleaning up litter through Keep Australia Beautiful Council programs, including Adopt-a-Spot, Tidy Towns, Clean Schools, Community Clean-ups and by becoming a litter reporter.

2021-2022 Community Litter Grant recipients and projects  

• Bunbury Dolphin Discovery Inc - $4,978 - to form the Dolphin Discovery Centre Storm Chasers group to address marine litter and to purchase a trailer to assist in exhibits and events.
• City of Perth - $5,000 - for the 12-month Claisebrook Clean trial, which will place a sea bin in the cove to collect litter and display it to locals. 
• SUP Tonic Australia - $2,044 - to purchase items to help in collecting debris during community river clean up events.
• KABC - Albany - Western Family Group - $3,135 - to fund a mesh basket at the end of a pipe entering Princess Royal Harbour to catch litter.
• Coastal Waste Warriors Inc - $3,148 - to implement a behaviour change campaign in like with the Clean Waterways Cigarette Butt Campaign.
• Town of Port Hedland - $4,000 - towards the Secure Your Load community awareness cargo netting campaign.
• Adventure Kids Entertainment - $3,242 - for Curtis and Martha's Litter Less Kids Show aimed at educating three to nine year olds about the impact of litter on oceans and beaches.
• Pilbara Dive and Tours - $772 - to hire dive equipment for 10 volunteers to carry out the underwater Pilbara Conservation Clean Up.
• Transition Bridgetown - $2,360 - for the Bridgetown/Blackwood River clean up event.
• Green Teach South West Inc - $1,766 - for audio-visual equipment to support its Lessen Litter Lessons about eliminating litter in waterways in the Leschenault Estuary and oceans.
• Walpole Community Resource Centre - $430 - towards the Adopt a Beach Quiz Night Extravaganza, plus clean-up day.
• Shire of Exmouth - $4,000 - for cargo nets for unsecured loads on trailers under the Keep Exmouth Clean project.
• No Butts about It (International) Ltd - $2,378 - to fund a campaign supporting the KABC Bin those Butts campaign.
• Shire of Nungarin - $583 - for a litter signage to support the Nungarin Caravan Park Keep It Clean Initiative.
