Victoria Cross war graves to be heritage listed

• All Victoria Cross recipient graves will be heritage listed
• Multi-step process to be complete by Anzac Day 2018 - marking the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI
• Heritage listing will include research into the individual stories of the deceased
• Listing will honour commitment made by Premier Mark McGowan while in Opposition 

War graves of Victoria Cross recipients will be heritage listed in time to mark the 100-year anniversary of the end of WWI.

The multi-step process to list the graves will start immediately and be completed by Anzac Day 2018.

The heritage listing will require identification of the graves, research into the individual stories, land surveys, and communications with various stakeholders, including the Returned and Services League and family members.

"Heritage listing these important and significant war graves will ensure they are protected for the future.

"I have directed the State Heritage Office to begin the process for heritage listing all Victoria Cross recipients' graves immediately, as the process is lengthy and multi-faceted.

"Beginning the process now will ensure the listing is complete in time to mark the 100-year anniversary of the end of WWI in 2018.

"This is an issue close to my heart and something that we committed to while in Opposition."
