State provides funds to support Youth Week events

• Funding grants totalling more than $81,000 will support youth celebrations in April
• Festivals, workshops, music, art and sport highlighted at 58 events across WA
• Youth Week WA to run from April 13-22 

Youth Minister Peter Tinley will formally launch Youth Week WA in South Hedland today, highlighting the McGowan Government's contribution to a week-long celebration that will include workshops, festivals and activities in music, art and sport across the State.

Fifty-eight grants totalling more than $81,000 will help young Western Australians aged 12-25 to participate in activities run by local governments and community sector organisations.

Up to $1,500 in individual grants boosted projects that will highlight the positive contributions of young people to the community. The grants also offered opportunities for young people to raise issues of concern and explore possible solutions.

The funding priority in 2018 was for activities involving young people in design and implementation, and to community-wide events involving partnerships with other community organisations or local governments.

WA Youth Ambassador David Castelanelli and Deputy Ambassador Philippa Bourke will promote Youth Week.

David is a young entrepreneur, while Philippa is passionate about environmental issues and mental health.  Philippa also works for the Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation.

Youth Week grant recipients: 

• Australian Red Cross - $1,500 for the Broome Youth Fun Fest, to include a pool party, dodgeball, workshops, music and free food stalls.
• Belgravia Foundation Pty Ltd - $1,500 for the Merredin Regional Community and Leisure Centre to hold Give it A Go in 2018, to include a cook-off, basketball clinic, handy 'fix it' workshop, ukulele and guitar lessons, Lego art and a music event.
• Bencubbin Community Resource Centre Inc - $990 to hold a Junior Masterchef event. Young people will learn about food and cooking, and prepare a meal for their parents and seniors from the community.
• Brockman House Inc - $1,250 to hold a cooking workshop, the Well Being Through Creating, Eating and Celebrating project, and cater for a community event.
• Broome Youth and Families Hub Inc - $1,500 for the Broome Mini Sports Day, to include a range of sporting activities.
• Bruce Rock Community Resource Centre Inc - $1,500 to hold the Bruce Rock YouthFest, to include music, DJ performances and foods stalls. There will be separate celebrations for people aged 12-17 years and 18-25 years.
• Brunswick Junction Community Resource Centre Inc - $1,400 for Brunswick young people to attend and host a face painting workshop at the SHIFT 2018 youth festival in Bunbury.
• Burekup and District Country Club Inc - $1,500 for a three-day youth art project, to install art on town bus shelters and buildings.
• Cecil Andrews Armadale Police Rangers - $1,500 for a sports day event.
• City of Albany - $1,500 for the YouthFest 2018 music event and skills development workshops.
• City of Armadale - $1,500 for the Artbeat Youth Fest, in the Jull Street Mall, to include workshops, information stalls and exhibitions.
• City of Gosnells - $1,500 for the Live Loud Youth Fest, featuring art, skating and music, at the Mills Park Skate Plaza.
• City of Joondalup - $1,500 for the Defeat the Beat music competition. Prizes to include a photo shoot and studio time.
• City of Kalamunda - $1,500 for the Grassroots Festival, which will include workshops, displays and activities about sustainability and recycling.
• City of South Perth - $1,500 for activities including athletics, art and workshops to be held throughout the city during the week.
• City of Vincent - $1,495 for the Vincent Youth Art Awards. Work to be displayed in venues around Leederville.
• City of Wanneroo - $1,500 for a youth market and family day. There will be music, activities and young entrepreneurs will run stalls.
• Curtin University - $1,500 for the Act-Belong-Commit Youth Week Breakfast which aims to raise awareness about the importance of positive mental health, and will celebrate Mentally Healthy Schools and Youth Connectors Programs participants.
• Dowerin Community Resource Centre Inc - $1,500 to hold Sports Umpire Clinics in netball, football, hockey and cricket umpiring.
• Edmund Rice Centre - $1,500 for the Local Parks Community Sports Festival in Mirrabooka.
• Enable WA, Manjimup - $1,500 to partner with the Shire of Manjimup Youth Network to hold the #SO_MY_FEST event, to feature music, graffiti art and other workshops, food and information stalls. 
• Escare - $1,500 for a 'town fun day' event on the Esperance waterfront, to include a mini triathlon, mobile phone scavenger hunt and open mic sessions.
• Lamp Inc - $1,000 for Djambe Drumming groups' Drum It - Beat It - Feel It workshops in Busselton.
• Milligan Community Learning and Resource Centre - $1,432 for the Zip into the Future zip lining course.
• Northcliffe Family Centre Inc - $1,212 to partner with the Shire of Manjimup Youth Network, to hold the #SO_MY_FEST event, to feature music, graffiti art and other workshops, food and information stalls. 
• Palmerston Association Inc - $1,480 for the 3 on 3 Basketball Beats healthy team building activities, to showcase young people's skills and abilities.
• Quinninup Community Association Inc - $1,500 to partner with the Shire of Manjimup Youth Network, to hold the #SO_MY_FEST event, to feature music, graffiti art and other workshops, food and information stalls. 
• Ravensthorpe Progress Association - $1,150 for a roller disco event for young people in Ravensthorpe and Hopetoun, to give them the opportunity to showcase their skating and rollerblading skills.
• Relationships Australia (WA) Inc - $1,000 for a youth quiz night in Bunbury, to include performances by local bands, comedians and other youth acts.
• Shire of Augusta-Margaret River - $1,500 to hold the South West Youth Festival, to include music, T-shirt tote bag making, a skating competition and arts and crafts.  
• Shire of Boddington - $1,500 to hold the BYC Youth Week Celebrations project with the Boddington Youth Centre. There will be workshops, demonstrations and performances and dance, sport, art, music and food activities.
• Shire of Broome - $1,500 for the Library Art Workshop, where young people will create art for display in the library in a workshop event.
• Shire of Capel - $1,000 to hold a series of workshops, including Doors Wide Open Drug Education, SFX film and stage and intergenerational cooking classes.
• Shire of Cuballing - $1,500 to hold the Cuballing Youth Day event with activities including modified tennis and a skateboard clinic.
• Shire of Dandaragan - $1,500 to hold the Spray the Grey Youth Festival Colour Rush Obstacle Course intergenerational event. Participants will complete a fun obstacle course where they will get covered in coloured chalk.
• Shire of Dardanup - $1,400 to hold the Sport Is Your Gang workshop series, to teach people how to use their energy in a safe and proactive away.
• Shire of Goomalling - $1,500 to hold Goomatown Fest. Activities will encourage young people to socialise, enjoy being young and to be the best they can, despite the odds.
• Shire of Harvey - $1,500 to hold Spooky Sports (on Friday, April 13), including basketball, table tennis, badminton, and soccer, and participants will be encouraged to take on regular sporting activities at the centre.
• Shire of Irwin - $1,423 to hold a wheelchair basketball event and sausage sizzle for young people in Port Denison, providing an opportunity to talk about the importance of access and inclusion across the community.
• Shire of Katanning - $1,000 for the Great Southern Youth Festival, to include music, rock climbing, laser tag and food stalls.
• Shire of Manjimup - $1,500 to partner with the Shire of Manjimup Youth Network, to hold the #SO_MY_FEST event, to feature music, graffiti art and other workshops, food and information stalls.
• Shire of Morawa - $1,000 for the Youth Week Seaside Cinema event.
• Shire of Murray - $1,500 for the 2018 Street Chillz Aware Youth Festival, to include bubble soccer, Freestyle Now BMX displays and urban arts workshops.
• Shire of Nannup - $1,500 to hold an art project, including workshops about special effects make-up and silk screen design.
• Shire of Narembeen - $800 to hold the Narembeen Warrior event, a ninja-style scavenger hunt throughout the town followed by a disco.
• Shire of Pingelly - $1,500 to hold the Pingelly Youth Celebration Day, to include an obstacle course, face painting, a cake station and a sausage sizzle.
• Shire of Toodyay - $1,500 to hold the Toodyay Youth Forum. Participants will share their thoughts on issues relating to education and employment; leisure, recreation and social life; communication and information; and respect and inclusion.
• Shire of Waroona - $1,500 for the Waroona Youth Festival, to include BMX and skateboarding workshops, a climbing wall and art activities.
• Shire of West Arthur - $1,045 to hold the Youth Week activities, including woodwork demonstrations by the local Men's Shed, laser tag and a movie and games afternoon.
• The Country Women's Association of WA, River Valley Belles - $1,500 to hold a two-day Hip Hop RNB workshop and to conclude with a disco.
• The Federation of WA PCYC, Broome - $1,500 to hold the Our Young Mob Got Talent event, to showcase musical, performance and visual art talents.
• The Federation of WA PCYC, Northam - $1,469 to hold a Fitness in the Park natural movement and boxing event, to encourage young people to have fun and have a positive attitude to exercise and fitness.
• The Girls' Brigade Western Australia Inc - $1,150 for Gotta Cache 'Em All, a geocaching adventure throughout the City of Perth where participants will work together to find marker points and get to the final base.
• Town of Mosman Park - $1,500 for a Youth Week festival, with information, market and food stalls, and performances by local musicians.
• Undalup Association Inc - $1,500 to hold the Undalup Djeran Youth Week event at the South West Youth Festival, in Busselton. To include a motocross demonstration, live music and Aboriginal dance workshops.
• Walpole Community Resource Centre Inc - $1,500 to partner with the Shire of Manjimup Youth Network, to hold the #SO_MY_FEST event, to feature music, graffiti art and other workshops, food and information stalls. 
• Youth Involvement Council Inc - $1,500 to hold the Hedland's Got Talent event and the Hedland Youth Awards.
• Youth Focus Inc - $1,500 for a Superhero YOUth! event at Oxford Street Reserve, in Leederville, to raise awareness about youth mental health.
