The preferred proponent to develop an exciting new community at Champion Lakes with more aged care facilities and job opportunities can now be revealed.

Yolk Property Group, in partnership with Southern Cross Care, will work to create a sustainable and liveable community, completely transforming the vacant 14-hectare site at Champion Lakes.

The development will incorporate diverse housing options including apartments, townhouses, standard and micro-lot homes, aged living and retirement housing.

Southern Cross Care will deliver strong aged care outcomes in the new development, in line with the McGowan Government's commitment to fast-track aged care developments.

Since the McGowan Government took office, more than 30 aged care development opportunities have been assisted through land transfers, rezonings, development approvals and State Government land projects.

The new Champion Lakes development will also include commercial and retail opportunities and public open space - key elements that will strengthen Armadale's role as a strategic centre.

The development will also offer a range of community amenities to promote recreation and wellness for residents and neighbours alike.

Champion Lakes is a newly established locality, 22 kilometres from Perth, that is bound by Tonkin Highway, Lake Road, Ranford Road and Albany Highway.

The Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority has been working for several years to improve amenities and create more residential, employment and business opportunities in the area.

Comments attributed to Planning Minister Rita Saffioti:

"The proposal supports the State Government's vision to create a lively, mixed-use destination on the water's edge with more aged care for Armadale and surrounding suburbs in the Perth Hills.

"This exciting new mixed-use development will deliver a diverse range of highly affordable and innovative housing including aged care, and create a dynamic community hub precinct to benefit the wider region.

"This represents an excellent outcome for Armadale and surrounding suburbs such as Roleystone where the ageing population needs more facilities to age in place.

"The proposal's strong focus on sustainability will also ensure that the area's natural beauty and character is reserved."
