A new primary school in Caversham, opening in 2020, will be officially named Caversham Valley Primary School.

This is part of a $74.5 million development of four new primary schools that will be opened next year in the suburbs of Baldivis, Banksia Grove, Byford and Caversham.

The name was decided following consultation with school staff and the local community, and because of its location in a valley, between the Swan River and Bennett Brook, many students who attend will also be from the nearby Swan Valley.

The $17.3 million primary school will accommodate 430 students from kindergarten to Year 6.

Comments attributed to Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

"Students living in the Caversham area will now have the option of attending Caversham Primary School and Caversham Valley Primary School - both fantastic schools that will inspire student learning.

"With four new primary schools to open next year, and an additional five in 2021, the McGowan Government's investment in education will benefit families now and in years to come."

Comments attributed to Midland MLA Michelle Roberts:

"I'm delighted that Caversham Valley Primary will open in 2020.

"It fulfils the commitment that I made to the people of Caversham during the election campaign.

"It will mean children can go to school close to home and greatly assist in developing a real sense of community."
