  • Western Australians are also still required to wear a mask in health care settings, on public transport and in other high-risk settings
  • Western Australians urged to keep up healthy hygiene, and stay up to date with flu and COVID-19 vaccinations in light of winter respiratory illness season

Based on the latest national advice from the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC), mask wearing mandates in airports in Western Australia will be lifted from 12.01am Saturday June 18, 2022.

Masks must continue to be worn on aircraft as per existing requirements, and are still encouraged to be worn in international and domestic terminals, if people wish to wear them.

In line with current baseline public health measures, masks are still required in certain settings across the State, including health care settings, residential aged and disability care facilities, and on public and passenger transport.

Western Australians are encouraged to continue to wear a mask, if they wish, where physical distancing is not possible to protect themselves as well as more vulnerable members of the community, including those at risk of serious illness from COVID-19 and other respiratory infections.

As well as staying up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations, Western Australians are urged to roll up and receive a free flu vaccination for the month of June at State-run vaccination clinics, and participating GPs and pharmacies to stay safe over winter.

Comments attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:

"WA's soft landing has been secured, we're past the peak and the lifting of masks at airport terminals follows WA phasing out some public health measures this month, based on the latest health advice.

"Masks may no longer be required in airports, but they're an easy and sensible precaution we can take to stay safe while around many others in transit.

"I would encourage people to keep a mask at hand as they are still required in some settings.

"Masks and vaccination are our strongest defences against COVID-19 and the flu, so I encourage Western Australians to keep following the advice and maintain healthy hygiene to stay safe."

Comments attributed to Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:

"WA continues to ride out the Omicron wave and, while we are tracking exceptionally well, we also have the flu season in full effect so it is more important than ever to keep up healthy hygiene habits and vaccinations.

"Many people in our community are vulnerable to serious illness, even more so in the cooler months, which is why all Western Australians can get a free flu vaccine for the month of June to protect themselves and others.

"As always, we are following the health advice to keep Western Australians safe and the latest advice is that masks are no longer mandated at airport terminals, but I'd encourage anyone who wants to wear a mask to continue to do so."
