Kwinana community welcomes new park at Cassia Estate

• Kwinana community benefits from bespoke park and sports facilities
• Locals' input helped design new park to promote active lifestyles, youth engagement and inclusiveness 

Housing Minister Peter Tinley will officially open the first of three parks planned for the Cassia Estate development at a special community event in Kwinana today (May 4).

The new 6,360 square metre park, located in the Cassia Glades precinct, is bordered by Orange Street and Hawkeswood Boulevard.

Community research helped guide the design which incorporates sporting and game facilities to promote active lifestyles. The park uses reclaimed materials and incorporates native landscaping.

The Cassia Glades park focuses on ball sports and features a picnic area with barbecues, a seating area and sun lounges. Roll-on turf features under existing retained trees, and a grassed kick-about area has been included.

Parents and children can also enjoy a recycled brick 'hit up' wall, and a sports plaza with line work for various sporting activities rounds out the park.

The Department of Communities started development at Cassia Estate in early 2015 with Satterley Property Group as the project manager. The estate will eventually yield 946 lots over three precincts. It currently offers lots from 225 square metres and up in the Kwinana town centre.

Cassia Rise in Parmelia is offering more traditional family lot sizes up to 550 square metres and Cassia North (also in Parmelia) has a mix of smaller and larger lots within 400 metres of the Kwinana train station.

A second park, planned for Cassia Rise and featuring natural materials, indigenous heritage attractions and water-wise native plantings, is scheduled for completion in October and will cater for families and young children.

The third park is also planned for Cassia Rise and is due to open in early 2020. The Cassia Estate is expected to be fully developed by 2028. For more information, visit http://www.cassiaestate.com.au
