Ellenbrook maintains reputation as best of the best at UDIA Awards
- Two wins for Ellenbrook at the UDIA Awards for Excellence
- WA's best development project has potential to support 8,000 jobs
The Swan Valley suburb of Ellenbrook won two prestigious accolades at the 2017 Urban Development Institute Australia (UDIA) Awards for Excellence recently, further cementing its national and international reputation.
Ellenbrook beat stiff competition from four other WA entrants to take home the Masterplanned Development Award, as well as the acclaimed Russel Perry Award for Urban Development Excellence.
The Russel Perry Award is particularly significant as it recognises the best project across all the category winners.
Ellenbrook is already Australia's most awarded urban development project, with more than 40 wins under its belt. In 2015, it was officially recognised by the International Real Estate Federation as the world's best master-planned community.
Jaye Radisich, the former Labor Swan Hills MLA, was a long-standing champion of the visionary development during the 2000s. The current Labor MLA, Jessica Shaw, shares that passion.
Ellenbrook consists of eight self-supporting villages, each with their own style, that are built around a modern town centre.
The Department of Communities and Morella Pty Ltd are partners in the joint venture that is project managed by LWP Property Group.
Comments attributed to Housing Minister Peter Tinley:
"A primary objective of the Ellenbrook development is boosting the creation of local jobs and reducing the need for residents to commute long distances to work.
"About 5,600 jobs have been generated since Ellenbrook was launched and there is strong potential for this figure to rise to 8,000 jobs once construction is complete.
"Ellenbrook is also home to more than 1,200 local businesses primarily involved in construction, logistics, and professional services."
Comments attributed to Swan Hills MLA Jessica Shaw:
"These latest UDIA Awards are a great result for Ellenbrook and highlight the benefits that are flowing and will continue to flow from this development.
"My Labor predecessor, Jaye Radisich, who was the youngest woman ever elected to the WA Parliament, was a strong and vocal supporter of Ellenbrook and I am privileged to continue that work.
"Ellenbrook is a flourishing development that demonstrates how government can partner with the private sector to successfully integrate social and affordable housing into vibrant, active and diverse communities."
