Ellenbrook's newest housing project to reap benefits of METRONET

• Development is biggest of its kind in five years and expected to create and support about 230 jobs and generate an estimated $90 million in economic activity
• Diversity of housing will supply market, from first home buyers to downsizing seniors
• Ellenbrook METRONET station will play key role in helping community to thrive

Housing Minister Peter Tinley and Transport Minister Rita Saffioti formally opened the Hesperia Precinct and Display Village in Ellenbrook's town centre today.

Hesperia, a joint development between the Department of Communities, Morella Pty Ltd and the LWP Property Group, is located in Ellenbrook's town centre and close to the site of the planned Ellenbrook Station.

As the town centre's northern-most residential precinct, the development draws inspiration from the original name that Governor James Stirling proposed for Perth - Hesperia.

This latest release of more than 60 lots is the biggest single stage in Ellenbrook in five years and when complete will offer a diverse mix of housing options in a single precinct, from terrace dwellings through to family homes.

Hesperia will also suit a range of home buyers, from first home owners to a special seniors housing range scheduled for launch in 2020.

The precinct includes a $1.3 million multi-generational park designed to cater for active and passive recreation, with play options for families, a half basketball court, a scooter track, BBQ facilities, exercise equipment and a quiet shaded area for reflection.

The project is expected to create and support more than 230 jobs during the construction phase and generate an estimated $90 million in economic activity.

Perth's north-eastern suburbs are one of Australia's fastest growing areas, with the population expected to almost double to more than 415,000 by 2031, compared to 2006 levels.

"It also reflects the McGowan Government's priorities and focuses on delivering more choice to individuals and families through an integrated and inclusive approach to housing and transport."

"The community that grows with this new development in the heart of Ellenbrook will reap the benefits of the McGowan Government's key METRONET vision - a Morley-Ellenbrook Line.

"Currently it takes residents in Ellenbrook around one hour to get to the CBD when using public transport. The Morley-Ellenbrook Line will halve that journey time.

"It will provide local residents with more education, employment and recreation opportunities and mean they can spend more quality time with friends and family rather than in transit.  

"Along with creating thousands of local jobs, it is estimated by 2031 the rail line will take more than 10,000 car trips off roads in the north-eastern suburbs each day.

"It's an exciting time to live in the north-eastern suburbs - not only are we building the Morley-Ellenbrook rail line, but a number of important road projects are coming online with the recent opening of the central stage of NorthLink WA to the Promenade, the new Drumpellier Drive dual carriageway and the final stage of Northlink WA set to open later this year."
