Lifting of northern pedestrian overpass at Perth Station
Another stage in the upgrading of Perth Station will occur this weekend (June 13-14) with the lifting of the northern pedestrian overpass.
Transport Minister Pam Beggs said today the northern overpass would connect Platform 8 with Roe Street.
The work was part of Stage 2 of a three-stage $6.5 million upgrading of Perth Station.
This stage provided a new pedestrian overpass connecting the bus station with the west end of Perth Station platforms via lifts and escalators and included retail space on the pedestrian bridge.
During the weekend operation two large trusses would be lifted into place allowing the installation of the precast floor panels.
To enable this to take place, power to the overhead electric cables would be shut down, though trains would be diverted for normal traffic.
Mrs Beggs said that the following weekend (June 20-21) the southern pedestrian overpass would be lifted into place in the same way.
The northern overpass would link Platforms 8 and 9 and the southern overpass, Platforms 1 and 5.
Platform 9 was a new platform and the third stage of the Perth Station upgrading. This stage included platform paving, landscaping and lighting to public areas.
"The upgrading of Perth Station is an essential part of the Northern Suburbs Transit System," Mrs Beggs said.
