Opening of seniors' unit development at Brentwood
Housing Minister Jim McGinty has opened an innovative thirteen unit housing development for seniors in the Perth suburb of Brentwood.
Mr McGinty said the $529,000 development in Cranford Avenue was part of the State Government's commitment to provide suitable quality housing for seniors.
"New developments are replacing the old houses on quarter acre blocks that are expensive to maintain and difficult for older people to manage," Mr McGinty said.
"The Cranford Avenue development provides more manageable housing for seniors and has been designed with their special needs in mind."
Mr McGinty said the 13-unit development was made up of seven one-bedroom and six-two bedroom units - each with its own secure, private courtyard.
The Minister said the construction of the units also demonstrated the benefits of redeveloping old Homeswest properties.
"Redevelopment allows for better use of valuable inner suburban land and capitalises on existing facilities and amenities," he said.
"In this case, many of the Homeswest tenants had wanted to remain in the area, but in more suitable accommodation - redevelopment ensured their wishes were met."
Mr McGinty said all those involved in the project were to be congratulated and that Homeswest would continue to upgrade accommodation for its older tenants.
