One of Britain's leading equestrians, Robert Lemieux, has arrived in Perth to undertake an intensive three-week coaching program with some of Western Australia's riders and coaches.

Sport and Recreation Minister Graham Edwards said local equestrians would gain great benefit from Lemieux's experience.

Mr Edwards said Lemieux would be in Perth under the Alcoa Coach-in-Residence program until February 3.

Lemieux, an Olympic rider, has conducted clinics in many European countries, North America and Australia.

"Robert Lemieux's visit to WA will be of enormous benefit to many of our riders, particularly those involved in horse trials," Mr Edwards said.

"He will conduct six clinics - four in Perth at the State Equestrian Centre and two at Katanning."

Mr Edwards said Lemieux would also conduct several seminars, including a course for horse trial stewards and course builders.

The Alcoa Coach-in-Residence program, which started in 1980, is co-ordinated by the Ministry of Sport and Recreation.
