Tenders out for Greenwood train station

Tenders have been called for the construction of a multi-million dollar park 'n' ride train station at Greenwood on the Northern Suburbs Railway.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said the much anticipated station would serve the many commuters who now had to travel to Whitfords or Warwick to catch a train.
"Greenwood station will provide excellent facilities for commuters, while reducing congestion at other stations," Ms MacTiernan said.
"The station will have facilities for pedestrians and cycles, passenger set down and pick up and 600 park 'n ' ride bays.
"It is expected there will be about 2,600 boardings a day when the station opens.
"Once Greenwood opens, commuters will be able to travel on the first group of new electric trains which begin arriving in Perth in April, 2004 and progressively go into service from September."
Ms MacTiernan said tenders would close on November 13 and the contract would be awarded early next year. The station would be completed in late 2004.
