Services commence from Greenwood Railway Station

The Gallop Government's visionary rail expansion program has taken another major step forward with today's opening of the new Greenwood Station.
Public services from the new station officially commenced from 11am, following a ceremony at which Premier Geoff Gallop and Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan jointly officiated to mark the opening.
Local residents were invited to join the celebrations and attendees were offered the special service of a free, express return trip to Perth on the first train to run from the new station - one of the new, six-car trains.
During the past four years, the Gallop Government had increased patronage and laid the foundations for a world-class public transport system, the Premier said.
"The northern suburbs line has been such a success that we have had to add new stations to meet demand," he said.
"We are succeeding in getting more people out of their cars and on to public transport by keeping fares low and expanding our passenger rail network.
"Only Labor is committed to investing in public transport and delivering a world-class system for the people of Perth.
"Good economic management and the ability to deliver balanced budgets means we can invest in vital infrastructure projects such as Greenwood Station.
"Investing in the public transport system is essential for the livability and sustainability of our city, it is good for the environment and it is good for people's hip pocket."
John Holland Pty Ltd undertook the work at Greenwood under a $6.8million contract with the Public Transport Authority.
Greenwood Station has 600 'Park n' Ride' bays, located on the eastern side of the Mitchell Freeway, with vehicle access from Hepburn Avenue.
There are also convenient set-down and pick-up facilities for vehicles, and access for pedestrians and cyclists.
The station is expected to serve 2,600 passengers on weekdays, with services during the height of the morning peak as frequent as two minutes.

The journey time from Greenwood Station to the city will be just 16 minutes.
All passengers will get to the separate north and southbound platforms via a footbridge over the traffic lanes of the Mitchell Freeway.
